Legal battle starts over Jimmy Hill's assets as it's revealed he's suffering from dementia
Jimmy Hill, the former footballer and TV presenter is now living in a care home after being diagnosed with dementia in 2008, his condition only came to light recently as a legal battle started over his assets.
He gave joint powers of attorney to his current wife Bryony and a solicitor, none of his children has any say over his treatment or assets.
Ellen Lambert, a Private Client expert says "Whilst an initial reaction may be to sympathise with Mr Hill's children, we should remember that Mr Hill chose his attorneys himself having taken legal advice prior to being diagnosed with dementia. The appointment of a professional attorney should reassure Mr Hill's children."
"There are practical issues in appointing a large number of attorneys and/or attorneys who live abroad. It is important to take proper advice before making any final decisions. Even more importantly, we need to remember that a power of attorney must be completed prior to a loss of mental capacity."
